The Best Decision I Almost Didn’t Make | My First Storytime
Tonight's Episode
This episode is a little different.
For the first time, I’m opening the door and sharing a personal story about one of the biggest decisions I’ve made this year—the decision to take my first cruise after unexpectedly losing my job.
I almost didn’t go. Fear, finances, and everyone else’s opinions had me questioning whether I was making the right choice. But sometimes, stepping outside of your comfort zone reminds you just how capable you really are.
In this storytime, I’m sharing the emotions behind the decision, the unforgettable memories from my trip, and the life lesson I brought home with me: don’t let fear convince you to stop living.
I hope this episode reminds you that life isn’t about waiting for the “perfect” time. It’s about finding the courage to trust yourself, create memories, and realize that the only person truly standing in your way is often the one staring back at you in the mirror.
Thank you for letting me be vulnerable and for allowing me to share this chapter of my journey with you. This is only the beginning of many more storytimes to come.
As always… Infinite blessings. 🤍
Welcome And Why Storytime
SPEAKER_00: Welcome, welcome, welcome to another episode of Sipping Tea with Queen D.
SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much for taking a second and tuning in with your girl.
SPEAKER_00: This episode is a little bit different.
SPEAKER_00: I wanted to do a story time for the first time on my podcast simply because not only did I want this podcast, this channel, to be an atmosphere where people can come and gather together, grow.
SPEAKER_00: But I also wanted to be real with you guys and let you guys know who is behind the sipping tea with Queen D voice.
SPEAKER_00: And I wanted to create start creating story times to really connect with my listeners and really open the door to a true friendship, right?
SPEAKER_00: So today I wanted to open up on a amazing trip that I recently just took, that I just got back from.
SPEAKER_00: It was my first cruise ever.
SPEAKER_00: And oh my gosh, I have like so much to talk about because Chile, it was crazy.
Job Loss And Trip Money Fear
SPEAKER_00: I had a good time, but it was crazy.
SPEAKER_00: Okay, but first of all, before I even get into it, I want to start at the beginning of, you know, I wasn't even going to go on this cruise simply because, as you guys know, I had lost my job a few months back.
SPEAKER_00: And the cruise financially was a little penny.
SPEAKER_00: Um, it was about a thousand dollars for the cruise, and then we're looking at flying to Miami, so that was about like a$500 ticket.
SPEAKER_00: Give or take, all the entire trip, I would say, was about three to four thousand.
SPEAKER_00: And we're talking about everything included from food to the flights to you know me buying my cute little outfits, everything.
SPEAKER_00: So that was a lot.
SPEAKER_00: And um honestly, child, I was like, I don't know.
SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
SPEAKER_00: And the reason why I was going on this trip was because it was my friend's birthday.
SPEAKER_00: And it was my my really best, my my real close best friend's birthday.
SPEAKER_00: And I was just like, you know, I just lost my job, right?
SPEAKER_00: I'm not making that big girl money no more.
SPEAKER_00: You know, I I I don't I don't know if I can do this.
SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
SPEAKER_00: And uh I was just going back and forth on it.
SPEAKER_00: And let's be honest, a lot of a lot of people did not want me to go on this trip.
SPEAKER_00: A lot of people did.
SPEAKER_00: I I'm not gonna say a lot of people didn't.
SPEAKER_00: My mom did not want me to.
SPEAKER_00: And you guys know when when mama doesn't approve, it's like, oh, you know, you're really just stepping out on faith.
SPEAKER_00: And uh I just kept thinking and rethinking, you know, if I go on this trip, what will happen?
SPEAKER_00: If I don't go on this trip, what will happen?
SPEAKER_00: And I thought about back when COVID happened and we went through the entire shutdown when the world, when the pandemic happened and the world just completely just shut down.
SPEAKER_00: And I remember wanting to go out, and I remember wishing I could go back in time and all the times that I said no, and all the opportunities I had to go out with my friends back then, and I said no, I wish I can go back in time and do it.
SPEAKER_00: So last minute I said, okay, I'm gonna go.
SPEAKER_00: Okay, I just kind of went on a, I went, I I jumped down on faith.
SPEAKER_00: The crazy thing is that I financially had enough money to go on the trip.
SPEAKER_00: I just was scared of going on the trip knowing that I don't have a job.
SPEAKER_00: And me taking eight days off is just a long time.
SPEAKER_00: Eight days of not working.
SPEAKER_00: I just me, I'm a workaholic.
SPEAKER_00: What do you mean?
SPEAKER_00: You know, like I don't know what you mean.
SPEAKER_00: I'm not the type of person to just take days off like that.
SPEAKER_00: You know, maybe two days, three days, but eight days, huh?
SPEAKER_00: So um, yeah, I just I just couldn't, I I couldn't even wrap my mind around like not being here.
SPEAKER_00: And it was so crazy because it the trip was going to happen right after the day of Father's Day.
SPEAKER_00: So I was gonna fly into Miami the day of Father's Day, and you guys know, if you guys don't know who's new here, welcome, welcome.
SPEAKER_00: My father passed away six years ago.
SPEAKER_00: Five years ago, excuse me.
SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh, five years ago.
SPEAKER_00: And now, oh my gosh, six years ago, oh my gosh, where is time going, guys?
SPEAKER_00: 2006, 2026.
SPEAKER_00: He passed away in 2020, excuse me.
SPEAKER_00: It's it's anyways, I digress.
SPEAKER_00: Um, so yes, I flew in right Miami Day, uh, right into Miami Father's Day weekend, and just my soul was just, it was just uh, you know, so I did not tell my mom until the last minute because I just knew she just she just did not, she would not want me to go.
Choosing Faith Over Approval
SPEAKER_00: I knew she did not want what she would not want me to go, and I know the reasons of her not wanting me to go on a trip would not be it, she wouldn't want me to go because she just felt like it wouldn't be right.
SPEAKER_00: Financially it wouldn't be right.
SPEAKER_00: Money would always be a thing for her, and I just in my mind, I'm like, I need to stop doing this mental thing about money because my when money comes to you if in infinite ways ten times over, you don't have to worry about money.
SPEAKER_00: And I had a I had a mental conversation with myself, if you will, and I said, you know what, D, you make money.
SPEAKER_00: You make money.
SPEAKER_00: You lit, you literally make and I started to really think like D, you really make money.
SPEAKER_00: You really, and and what are you doing?
SPEAKER_00: You need to go on this trip.
SPEAKER_00: Even even if it's scary, you need to go on it simply because it's out of your comfort zone.
SPEAKER_00: And I was like, you know what?
SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna go.
SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna go.
SPEAKER_00: And I told my mom, and of course she didn't want me to go, and I said, listen, mom, like I love you.
SPEAKER_00: But it's not about what you want.
SPEAKER_00: I'm not, I didn't call you to get approval.
SPEAKER_00: I called you to let you know that I won't be able to talk to you for seven days, so I think you might want to talk to me before I leave.
SPEAKER_00: Like, I I love you, mom, but I didn't call you to get approval, sweetheart.
SPEAKER_00: I called you to let you know we need to talk now, and I'm sure you want to help me get my office because I'm going to the Bahamas, Dominican Republic, and Grand Trips and Caicos.
SPEAKER_00: And I'm gonna have a good time.
SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna, you know, I I'm and oh my God, friends.
SPEAKER_00: Like I can cry right now thinking of it.
SPEAKER_00: I could talk, I could cry right now talking about it because when I tell you, I just had such a good time.
Cruise Highlights And Friend Energy
SPEAKER_00: First of all, my friend groups was amazing.
SPEAKER_00: Everybody I went on the group with, on the trip with, like, they're amazing.
SPEAKER_00: Like that everyone's energy was great.
SPEAKER_00: You know how some people like, you know, when you go on a trip with your friends, they start to baker.
SPEAKER_00: No, no, nobody bakered.
SPEAKER_00: It was amazing.
SPEAKER_00: Everybody was wrong, everyone held their own, everybody held their own liquor.
SPEAKER_00: No one had to get talked to about how they acted, you know.
SPEAKER_00: Um I mean, I saw donkeys in Grand Turks and Keikos.
SPEAKER_00: You know, I the water was so warm in the Bahamas.
SPEAKER_00: We went to the Pink Street and the Umbrella Street in the Dominican Republic, child.
SPEAKER_00: I mean, I had some rum and I bought some rum back from the Dominican Republic and is, let me tell you, it's just amazing.
SPEAKER_00: Okay, it's just it's very smooth.
SPEAKER_00: And um, you know, I say all this to say, if I didn't push myself out of my comfort zone, if I didn't sit down with myself and say, you know what, do it.
SPEAKER_00: Do it and don't worry about what everyone else is gonna say.
SPEAKER_00: Because everyone else, my sisters, don't do it, uncle, I don't think you, you know, and it's just one of those things where it's like, okay, you know, just wish me well.
SPEAKER_00: You know, just wish me well.
SPEAKER_00: You know, just just make sure that I get home safely.
SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_00: Like, I I I all I can say is that although it was such a scary experience to like just kind of step out on my faith and step out on just knowing that whatever happens, I'm gonna make sure I'm okay.
SPEAKER_00: It made me realize, D, you can do anything.
SPEAKER_00: You can literally do anything, and the only person that's holding you back is you.
SPEAKER_00: You're the only person that's holding you back because you didn't allow, you're not, you didn't allow anyone else opinions to hold you back.
SPEAKER_00: You know, you didn't allow anyone else um wishes or wants.
One Life, Balance, And Memories
SPEAKER_00: You know, if people didn't want you to go, it didn't matter what they wanted because it was about what you wanted.
SPEAKER_00: And I came to the conclusion, friends, that this is my life.
SPEAKER_00: And we only get one life, and all the money that I make, I can't take with me.
SPEAKER_00: I can't take with me.
SPEAKER_00: I leave it for my nieces and nephews and kids if I have kids.
SPEAKER_00: You know, I can't take none of this money with me.
SPEAKER_00: So I I just feel like there's a balance that needs to be had, friends.
SPEAKER_00: There's a balance of enjoying life, making memories, and also, you know, make sure you can pay your bills.
SPEAKER_00: You know, whatever whatever that balance looks like for you, you know, it's it's about finding it.
SPEAKER_00: Because we only get one life, and we don't know, we don't know when when it's gonna end, right?
SPEAKER_00: We don't know when our last day is.
SPEAKER_00: And all we can do is just enjoy each day.
SPEAKER_00: You know, be where your feet are.
SPEAKER_00: You know, if you haven't listened to my last episode, this is your opportunity to pause this episode and go take a look at my last episode because my last episode, I dropped some gems.
SPEAKER_00: I dropped some gems, y'all.
SPEAKER_00: You know, but um, friends, I really wanted to just take a second to do this story time because I want you guys to get to know me on a personal level.
SPEAKER_00: This is this sipping tea with Queen D is more than a platform to me.
SPEAKER_00: You know, this is going to be a community, and I want this community to be this community to be based off of love and being open and welcoming, and that's that's that's who I am, right?
SPEAKER_00: And that's why I wanted to do this story time, just so you guys can get to know a little bit about the and about who I am and what I've been going on.
SPEAKER_00: And trust me, I I will be doing this more often.
SPEAKER_00: Um, this was something that I just thought of on the fly because I said, you know what?
SPEAKER_00: I just got back on my trip from my trip.
SPEAKER_00: I'm sure they're wondering why I haven't uploaded anything.
SPEAKER_00: Uh it's just I've been doing a lot of friends, okay?
SPEAKER_00: I I before I left for my trip, I was working, working, working because I needed to make that money.
SPEAKER_00: I need to make that money.
SPEAKER_00: And then when I was on my trip, I didn't have no internet, which was that let me take a second.
Digital Detox And Community Vision
SPEAKER_00: Take a second to say not being able to get contacted was just amazing.
SPEAKER_00: I mean, it was just beautiful because the reality is that whatever's gonna happen is gonna happen, right?
SPEAKER_00: I don't think I need to know what I don't I don't need to be in the know of everything that happens because who am I?
SPEAKER_00: You know?
SPEAKER_00: I have a friend, you know, he's very big on being on their phone and being on social media, and you know, they was like, you know, I just feel like I need to know what's going on in the world.
SPEAKER_00: I'm like, but why?
SPEAKER_00: And and why do you feel like you need to know?
SPEAKER_00: Because whatever's gonna happen is gonna happen.
SPEAKER_00: And I wonder, are you gonna stop that?
SPEAKER_00: You know, because I know I can't stop it.
SPEAKER_00: I can't stop whatever's gonna happen, I can't stop it.
SPEAKER_00: But what I can do, and I I can I can choose what I put my energy towards so I can make the world a better place.
SPEAKER_00: That's what I can do.
